What is background segmentation?+

Background segmentation is the process of separating an image into distinct layers — typically the main subject, any secondary subjects and the background. This gives you independent control over each part of the image.

How is this different from background removal?+

Background removal (Lampdra Cut) separates just the main subject from the background. Segmentation (Lampdra Segment) goes further and separates the image into multiple named layers including mid-ground elements and multiple subjects.

Can I export all layers separately?+

Yes. Lampdra Segment lets you export each segmented layer as an individual transparent PNG file. You can then import these layers into Photoshop, Figma, After Effects or any other software.

Is Lampdra Segment really free?+

Yes, completely free. Lampdra Segment is supported by a short ad shown before you download your result. That ad revenue keeps the service free for everyone. You never need to pay, sign up or share your email.
